Why I Became A Physical Therapist
When my x-rays didn’t show a fracture, the orthopedist sent me to physical therapy. At first, I was really skeptical that physical therapy could help me. My therapist taught me to stretch properly and instructed me in a series of exercises to strengthen my leg. I went twice a week and stretched a lot on my own. Within just a few weeks my hip felt great and I was back to hurdling. It was like magic. I was hooked. I wanted to help other people in the same way my therapist had helped me.
Today, I know that physical therapy isn’t magic. It’s science. Physical therapists utilize anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, and psychology to help patients feel better and perform better. As a physical therapist, I feel passionate about teaching people about health and fitness, rehabilitating their injuries and getting them back to doing what they love to do.
